BIO-

Thieves formed in late 2010 out of a common interest between long-time friends to start a band that broke modern boundaries although taking music back to it’s roots. The band’s melodic folk-rock sound is like the reverberation of a love child spored from a mix of early classic rock and roll legends, from The Band and Bob Dylan, to a modern day grind of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Manchester Orchestra.

“Thieves' take on blues-rock is certainly an interesting one… eclectic, yet seamless; blending various textures and elements… A raw, folk-tinged, musical hotchpotch of contemporary roots-rock… And a delicious one at that!” – Deaf Ambitions review.

Hailing from their hometown, the Central Coast of New South Wales, the boys began their journey as a softer indie progressive rock group, before snatching up drummer Adam Kaye, a sound engineer at the studio where they rehearse, and completing their line up. Adam brought with him a heavier beat to Thieves from his raw rock musical background, shortly after which the boys wrote their first song as a band ‘Avalanche’, still a crowd favourite at their live shows.

“Avalanche gets under your skin, inside your brain and all you want to do is sway your hips to the sexy grungy melodies…” – Triple J Unearthed review.

Theives singer/songwriter, Thomas Keating writes beyond his twenty-one young years with poetic versus and harmonies that compliment the music like the warmth and hum you get from classic vinyl. This teamed with Crum's reprehensible amalgamation of velvety smooth bass grooves and bluesy harmonica phrasing, adds an edge that puts this band in a class of their own.

"Thieves are incredibly tight with impressive arrangement that seems to lack in other hype rock bands. Built on epic riffs and the country/folk vocals of Thomas Keating, the songs are solid and engaging. But more than anything, the energy they exude as a band puts them on another level..." - The Orange Press review.

Since 2010 the boys hitting the Sydney scene hard, playing to packed local venues including Oxford Art Factory, World Bar, Spectrum and The Annandale Hotel, supporting notable bands such as Thirsty Merc, As Tall As Lions (USA), The Moderns and The Lazy's. Also recently returning from their first interstate tour along the North East Coast of Australia, they played in Brisbane and Gold Coast venues with rave reviews and feedback.

Thieves released their first self titled studio EP in 2011, produced by Ryan Hazel and Ivory Lane Studios, which is still available for your listening pleasure.

Due to a recent line up change the boys are currently back in the studio recording an even bigger and better revamped EP, to be released mid 2012, followed by an East Coast tour. Stay posted for when Thieves will be hitting a city near you.

THIEVES Sydney, Australia

Trying to pull their focus away from heavy drinking and constant procrastination thieves managed to pull things together and write their debut album. Heavily influenced at the time by prolific story-tellers such as Nick Cave, Neil Young, Jay Laffer, Gareth Lidiard and Tim Winton a twisted melancholic narrative about a trouble Australian family was created. ... more
